Are the thin (TV) Wall Mounts a good idea?

Question by : Are the (TV) a ?
I’m shopping for a wall mount so i can mount the TV to the wall, I came across these wall mounts that are thin and they advertise them that they are only like 8mm off the wall, but how would this work if your gonna have wires behind the tv and yes even if the wires are going through the wall, i mean still, don’t you need at least a little more space than 8mm? Or can you still do it? because it would seem to be cool to have the tv as close to the wall as possible..

You need to plan ahead, so that the wires come through the wall directly behind the jacks that they plug into. Where the studs are located may make this impossible, though, although you may be able to compensate by using cables with right-angle plugs on them.

I agree with James, but I would also like to point out that the primary killer of electronics is heat. Unless you are using an LED TV (they don’t get as hot), mounting a TV that close to a wall can shorten its life. It really needs room to breathe.

To mount a TV that close to the wall, you would need to run the wires through the wall itself. Also, a mount that thin would probably not allow for articulation (tilting the TV up or down at a 15 or so degree angle, which can make a significant difference). I would recommend a standard wall mount that comes out a few inches from the wall. And, unless you spend more than $ 250 for the mount, I wouldn’t get a swing arm mount. I have read too many horror stories about how they bend easily and get tweaked, to where your TV is at a slight angle to the side when the arm is extended.

The ultra-low profile wall mounts are really only designed to be used with the super slim LED televisions, particularly the ones with lateral inputs (on the side) instead of directly into the back. Whoever said the heat would be an issue is perfectly correct. You would only want to use that mount for a slim LED.
